Total Opposition to the proposal for Emberz Strip Club in Albury including Change of Use, Internal Fit-Out & Signage for Restricted Premises - Adult Entertainment Venue. 

We firmly believe that such an establishment is not in the best interest of our city and would be detrimental for various reasons:

Community Values & Well-Being: A strip club can have a negative impact on the overall well-being of our community, affecting the mental and emotional health of residents, especially children and teenagers. It will also clash with the family-friendly atmosphere and values of the CBD, making it less welcoming for residents, families, and tourists who are seeking a wholesome environment. The presence of a strip club can erode the sense of community and shares values among residents and businesses in the CBD.

Economic Impact: Contrary to the promises of economic benefit, strip clubs often attract criminal activity and can lead to a decrease in property values, which can be detrimental to local businesses. Surrounding businesses that rely on a family friendly environment may suffer, as patrons may avoid the area due to the presence of the strip club. It can damage the reputation of our city, making it less appealing and potentially deter businesses, tourists and investors. This can have a long-term impact on the community.

Gender Equality and Objectification: Strip clubs perpetuate the objectification of women, perpetuating harmful gender stereotypes and inequalities, reinforcing harmful views and attitudes. They often depict women as objects for the pleasure of male patrons, reducing their worth to their physical appearance and the entertainment they provide. Women involved in this industry often face social stigma, making it difficult for them to access support networks or escape negative stereotypes.
Safety Concerns: Strip clubs have been linked to issues of human trafficking, drug abuse, and other criminal activities. We fear that the presence of such an establishment could pose safety risks to our community. Men who frequent strip clubs may develop unrealistic expectations and objectifying attitudes towards women, which can lead to strained relationships and contribute to a culture of sexism.

We understand that every business has the right to operate, but we believe it is essential to prioritize the well- being, safety, and values of our community and rightly have the freedom to oppose having Emberz in the heart of Albury CBD. 

We, the undersigned, respectfully request:

Reconsideration of application: We urge the relevant authorities to reconsider granting  permission for the establishment of a strip club in the Albury CBD.

Community Consultation: We request an open and transparent community consultation process to ensure that the concerns and opinions of Albury residents are taken into account regarding the proposed establishment.

Preservation of Community Values: By signing this petition, we stand united in our strong belief that our community should remain a haven of safety, hospitality, and family-friendliness, and permitting the operation of a strip club contradicts these fundamental principles.
