Opposition of NWI Proposed location of a sewer system in Geismar/Dutchtown area.

The Issue

Sewage treatment plants can release numerous hazardous air pollutants, which pose significant health risks to nearby communities. EPA has identified acetaldehyde, acetonitrile, chloroform, ethylene glycol, formaldehyde, methanol, methylene chloride, tetratchloroethylene, toluene, and xylenes as the primary hazardous pollutants admitted from treatment plants.

We live off Highway 73 and 74 in the Geismar/Dutchtown area, within a short distance of the proposed sewer treatment facility. We enjoy rural life, have invested large sums of money to live in this community and raise our families. Now our property values are under threat of reduction due to a planned sewer treatment facility in Geismar.  This is far from okay. The peace of being outdoors and having fresh air to breathe, cannot be undermined. We currently have infrastructure issues with roadways and waterways frequently flooding. We are not okay with the planning and placement of this facility within proximity of rural neighborhoods, livestock, fields and waterways. The stench of sewer in the air is unacceptable. We ask that an alternate location be pursued.

Please sign this petition and amplify our voice to ensure that NWI reconsiders their decision and to protect our homes, schools, and community.
