Opposing Pickleball Courts at Triunfo Park

Opposing Pickleball Courts at Triunfo Park
The Issue
Please consider helping residents whose homes border Triunfo Community Park.
Conejo Recreation and Park District (CRPD) has proposed the installation of multiple pickleball courts in Triunfo Park due to the increased in popularity of this sport.
As evidenced in the numerous articles and newscasts recently, the implusive, high-pitched, high-frequency noise from the sport is a serious problem for those who are exposed to it day after day for up to 10-16 hours per day. These articles and newscasts highlight emotional and
physical health issues for those who live near pickleball courts. There is not sufficient distance between many of our homes and the proposed pickleball courts to mitigate the noise frequency and pitch of multiple players. People as far as 1,500-3,000 feet from existing pickleball courts
have said they are upset by the noise nuisance every day. Homes near Triunfo Park are as close as 380 feet from the proposed courts.
We have heard the refrain, "Well, you chose to live near a park!" Yes, we did and many of the neighbors have been living here happily for more than three decades. Triunfo Community Park does not have and has not had any on-going nuisance use. Many sports are played in the park. Parties and other fun events are held in the park and can be extremely loud, but every use thus far has been short term and acceptable. Pickleball is a whole new ballgame in terms of the type and frequency of noise it generates.
We are not opposing pickleball as a sport, we are suggesting that there are much better and more suitable locations for pickleball courts to be constructed.
The City of Westlake Village recently approved a bid to build FOUR dedicated pickleball courts at Westlake Community Center. Westlake Community Park is the perfect location as it is high up on a hill where there are no homes surrounding it within 1000 feet. In addition, Yarrow Family YMCA is located right next to the park. Pickleball can also be played indoors on basketball courts as they do now at YMCA where they dedicate specific timeslots for the game throughout the day.
We have prepared this petition for CRPD asking that the 4-6 pickleball courts not be placed in the middle of our neighborhoods. If you can empathize with our position, please help us to sign the petition. Your support would be very much appreciated.
Thank you.
