Oppose Zoning Bylaw Amendment at 27 Winona Dr.
The Issue
We, the undersigned residents and members of the Whitchurch-Stouffville community, respectfully express our concerns regarding the proposed zoning bylaw amendment for 27 Winona Dr. to permit the construction of a three-storey place of worship. While we fully respect the right to religious assembly, our concerns are rooted in practical and planning-related impacts on our neighborhood.
Firstly, the potential for increased traffic congestion is a significant worry. An upsurge in vehicle flow can be expected, especially during peak hours and special events, impacting the daily life and safety of community members. Traffic congestion is not merely an inconvenience; it poses risks to pedestrians, including schoolchildren and the elderly, and reduces the overall quality of life.
Moreover, the scale and size of the proposed development are not in harmony with the existing residential character of our neighborhood. The introduction of a large structure aimed at accommodating many visitors at once will alter the skyline and personal space of nearby homes, possibly leading to a decrease in property values.
We urge the council to consider these factors seriously and review the impact assessments thoroughly before proceeding with any decisions. Ensuring that new developments are beneficial and considerate of community needs is vital for the welfare and sustainability of Whitchurch-Stouffville.
By signing this petition, we ask that the zoning bylaw amendment for 27 Winona Dr. be reconsidered with due diligence toward the existing community's well-being and the character of our beloved neighborhood. Let’s preserve what makes Whitchurch-Stouffville special.
