Oppose WPUSD proposed redistricting affecting Lincoln Crossing students

Oppose WPUSD proposed redistricting affecting Lincoln Crossing students
The Issue
The Western Placer Unified School District (WPUSD) has proposed a redistricting plan that significantly impacts the students of Lincoln Crossing in Lincoln, California.
The concerned community members of the Lincoln Crossing neighborhood, respectfully urge the WPUSD Board to halt the proposed redistricting plan that would force Lincoln Crossing Elementary students (below 3rd grade in the 2025–2026 school year) to attend Glen Edwards Middle School (GEMS) and Lincoln High School (LHS), instead of their currently assigned Twelve Bridges Middle School (TBMS) and Twelve Bridges High School (TBHS).
📌 Key Concerns:
Broken Expectations & Financial Burden: Many families bought or rented homes in Lincoln Crossing based on the existing school assignments. These families have paid significant Mello-Roos taxes, which helped fund and build TBHS. Changing school assignments now undermines the trust and financial investment made by these residents.
Planning Oversight: The current redistricting proposal appears to be a reaction to rapid population growth that WPUSD and the City of Lincoln failed to properly anticipate and plan for. This lack of foresight should not be corrected at the expense of young students and their families.
Academic & Social Disruption: GEMS and LHS currently show lower academic performance metrics compared to TBMS and TBHS. Additionally, the proposal would disrupt established peer relationships and social circles, creating unnecessary emotional and academic challenges for affected students.
Safety Concerns: Families are concerned about the safety and appropriateness of the new school assignments, particularly due to proximity to The Gathering Inn, and increased risk of bullying in less familiar environments.
Impact on Property Values: The proposed changes may negatively impact home values in Lincoln Crossing, further penalizing residents who chose this community based on existing school zoning.
Failure to Explore All Alternatives: WPUSD has not demonstrated that all alternative solutions have been fully explored, including:
Adding modular classrooms to existing campuses
Increasing staffing to accommodate growth
Reallocating underutilized resources across the district
Budgetary constraints must not be used as a blanket justification for making drastic changes without exhausting all other viable options.
✅ Our Request:
We respectfully request that the WPUSD Board of Trustees:
- Preserve the current school assignments for Lincoln Crossing Elementary students, allowing them to continue to TBMS and TBHS as originally planned.
- Delay any boundary changes until a comprehensive and community-inclusive plan is developed.
- Hold WPUSD and the City of Lincoln accountable for long-term planning, and not penalize families for institutional oversights.
- Fully explore all alternatives, including reassessing the utilization of resources across the district, infrastructure expansion and strategic staffing, before considering any redistricting decisions
Please sign this petition to protect the educational path, safety, and community integrity of our students and neighborhoods.
Together, we can ensure our students receive the quality, consistency, and security in education that they were promised—and that they deserve. The proposed change would affect our youth during a critical developmental stage, when continuity in education is more important than ever for their social, emotional, and academic well-being.
