Right now, kids living in New York City are about to enter classrooms that will be teaching from the Wit & Wisdom ELA Curriculum. This is a problem because the curriculum almost entirely centers whiteness and either erases, marginalizes, dehumanizes, or silences people of color. The only times that people of color are represented in the Wit & Wisdom ELA Curriculum (K-12), is in service of perpetuating flat stereotypes of black and brown people that do not accurately reflect the diverse and beautiful identities of our city's students. 

Research dictates that children who do not see themselves represented in classrooms do not meet their academic potential, become less engaged in class, and more importantly, internalize wrong and hateful messages about themselves. That is what's at stake: our kids' ability to see themselves and love themselves.

Please sign this petition that opposes the Wit & Wisdom ELA Curriculum and demands that NYC Schools adopt school curricula that is culturally responsive by acknowledging and affirming the identities of our students.
