Oppose Virginia HB 585's Attack on Legal Home Businesses

The Issue

Virginia HB 585 is targeted at destroying home-based FFLs in Virginia. This bill, if passed in the upcoming 2024 session, will shutter hundreds of small businesses across our state and will subject owners to criminal charges for providing legal, federally licensed services.

According to data from the ATF, there are over 2,100 FFLs in Virginia. The majority of these are small, home-based businesses that operate discretely, and safely serve their communities. They are also some of the most highly regulated members of the firearms community.

Home-based FFLs are a vital part of our community and economy. They provide essential services for responsible firearm ownership, including education, safety training, and lawful access to firearms. The majority of these FFLs are run by individuals deeply committed to promoting safe and responsible gun ownership in their local communities. Home-based FFLs also provide equitable access to the increasing ranks of traditionally underrepresented groups in the firearms community such as women and people of color. These home-based FFLs often serve as vital access points in diverse communities, offering more convenient and comfortable environments for these groups who might otherwise feel alienated in traditional gun store settings.

With HB 585 looming on the horizon for the next legislative session, these vital members of the community stand at risk. The bill's provisions would eliminate the majority of these businesses overnight, despite a lack of evidence showing of any risk to the community.

We must protect these integral parts of our community by opposing this legislation that threatens their existence and prosperity. By doing so, we safeguard not only these enterprises but also countless jobs and livelihoods they support across Virginia.

Please join me in urging our elected representatives to oppose Virginia HB 585 during the upcoming legislative session by standing up for the rights of small businesses across the state! Sign this petition today!
