Oppose Turning Point Farm Venue

Oppose Turning Point Farm Venue
The Issue
Many of us are now aware that a new venue is asking for a special exception to have a business in a residential zone. Many people might be thinking "What's the harm?" or "It doesn't sound like a big deal to me". I'd just like for us to remember the reasons that so many of us didn't want the campground here. While the campground did touch multiple different properties and this residence doesn't, the objections are virtually the same. The emergency service for residents here remains stretched thin. If police have to concentrate on the possible drinking and driving of a thriving wedding venue that hopes to be busy every weekend, that means one residence is using police service that could be needed somewhere else. The possibility of an accident happening is greatly enhanced at this location because the parking is not at the venue, but rather, at the church across the street where guests have to cross the street at the blind curve that we all have to slow down for, if we drive down Dividing Ridge Road coming from Greer. The issue of traffic on our roads is much the same as it would have been for the campground if you do some simple math. 250 guests, at an event, 4 times a month, all year, equals 12,000 new strangers introduced to our remote area that wouldn't be invited to the place we all choose to live, if it weren't for one residence choosing to use their land to make an income, while most of us choose to make money elsewhere, and use this area to just live. In peace. Which brings me to quiet. I understand that not many may be able to hear this venue when they have an event. We might not be able to hear loud people next to your house either. But if you ever experience the misfortune of having someone do business next to your house, that brings unwanted traffic and noise to your part of the neighborhood, I hope we will all be there for you too. I'll go ahead and steal from the sentiment that I saw written in the petition that was against the campground.. It's tourism that we don't want, and land commercialized no matter who it affects that we don't want. If you agree, please sign this petition. Approving this venue only sets the precedent for more businesses to come.
