Thanks to your voices, petitions, and relentless pushback, back in August 2025, Weingart Center officially abandoned the $30 million Extended Stay America hotel purchase.
Update as of November 1, 2025:
• Weingart CEO Kevin Murray has been placed on leave
• FBI involved – former Councilmember Mike Mauno’s complaint triggered scrutiny of Weingart’s appraisals.
• LA Times confirms Weingart’s board hired a law firm to investigate all suspicious housing deals.
• Homekey program under DOJ scrutiny – two executives already charged with fraud.
