Oppose the Zoning Change to build Apartments Near Mckinney Historic District

The Issue

My family and I reside in a single-family home  on N. Kentucky St, directly behind the proposed development on 801 N. Tennessee St. We are raising two young daughters, and the prospect of a new three-story apartment building with commercial spaces at the street level just behind our backyard is deeply unsettling. The increased noise levels and the possibility of strangers overlooking into our private space would make our backyard nearly unusable and steal the joy and privacy we've cherished in our home.

Information about the change can be found here. Meet is July 22 at 6pm.

The proposed zoning change for 801 N. Tennessee St. in McKinney, TX, is not just impractical, but it poses a significant threat to the character and peace of our historic district. Currently, there are no other buildings of such height within our community. If approved, this new construction would stand out like a sore thumb, possibly leading to a continuous disruption of our neighborhood's architectural harmony and aesthetics.

Furthermore, there’s a genuine concern that the proposed apartment complex could lead to a decrease in property values in the vicinity. For homeowners like us, the financial implications of devalued properties could be distressing and potentially damaging.

Moreover, the increase in noise and traffic, alongside other public nuisances, could severely affect the quality of life for all residents in the area. This area, known for its peace and tranquility, would be transformed into a high-traffic zone, burdening our simple streets with issues not currently faced.

Beyond these immediate concerns, we must consider the broader implications on the historic district around 801 N. Tennessee St. This section of McKinney is cherished not only for its aesthetic beauty but for its historical significance. Allowing such a development in this area would disrupt its historical integrity, something that once lost, cannot be easily regained.

We urge city planners and decision-makers to consider the lasting impacts this zoning change could bring and to hold steadfast to safeguarding the qualities that make our community unique. Let’s prioritize preserving the character of McKinney, ensuring that development is thoughtful, inclusive, and truly beneficial for its residents.

Please support us in opposing the zoning change for 801 N. Tennessee St., and help protect our neighborhood and preserve the heritage and tranquility of McKinney, TX. Sign this petition to make sure your voice is heard and to keep our community the haven it has always been.
