Oppose the road diet on Central Avenue
Oppose the road diet on Central Avenue
The Issue
As concerned citizens, we live, work, recreate, and patronize the businesses in this vibrant community. We are facing a direct threat to our daily lives with the proposed "road diet" for Central Avenue by the McKinleyville Municipal Advisory Committee. This proposal, if implemented, will exacerbate the existing traffic congestion, making it difficult for us to commute efficiently and safely.
Central Avenue serves as one of the main thoroughfares through our community, connecting residents to homes, schools, businesses, and essential services. Currently, during peak hours, we experience significant traffic delays. Reducing lanes or implementing the "road diet" would only serve to increase the burden on residents, limiting accessibility and potentially driving customers away from our beloved local businesses.
We believe there are other feasible alternatives that should be explored to manage traffic flow without compromising the efficiency of Central Avenue. Introducing improved traffic light sequencing, encouraging carpooling, enhancing public transportation, or creating alternative routes can be effective and viable solutions. These strategies would mitigate congestion without imposing a detrimental impact on our daily commutes.
Together, we can ensure that the voice of our community is heard by the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors. It's crucial that we stand united against this "road diet" to protect the future of McKinleyville's key transportation route. By signing this petition, you help support sensible traffic management strategies that align with the best interests of all McKinleyville residents. Please join us in taking a stand: sign this petition and let your voice be counted!
