Oppose the redevelopment of Willenhall Malthouse

Oppose the redevelopment of Willenhall Malthouse
The Issue
The Malthouse was one of the outbuildings of the Dale House, a Grade II listed building, which was built around 1750 by the Hincks family, farmers who had come to Willenhall to set up a malting business.
The Malthouse was converted into a cinema in 1914, titled the Coliseum. In 1932, Dale House and the Coliseum were bought by John Tyler, a local councillor. He and his daughter Norah replaced the old Coliseum with a new cinema, the Dale, with seating for audiences of over 1,000.
More recently, the Malthouse served the community of Willenhall as a JD Wetherspoons, closing in March 2023. A planning application has been submitted for part of the Malthouse to be converted into 8 studio apartments.
We the undersigned, request Walsall Council Planning department to object to the planning application due to the following reasons:
- Lack of parking provision
- Detrimental impact on the heritage and history of the building
- Detrimental impact on a Grade II listed building
- Negative impact on the area of conservation
- Fear of crime and anti-social behaviour
- Incorrect information submitted in the planning application documents
