Oppose the recognition of a Palestinian state

Oppose the recognition of a Palestinian state
The Issue
In recent years, there have been growing calls for the United Kingdom to formally recognise a “Palestinian state.” I believe such recognition is premature, legally questionable, and carries serious risks — particularly for the Jewish community. I urge Parliament to unrecognise this purported state, assert that it is non-existent under international law until a genuine, stable resolution is negotiated, and reject any diplomatic status that would endanger peace, security, and Jewish safety.
---
Why this matters
1. No solid legal basis yet
The term “Palestinian state” has been used in various ways, but no final, agreed borders, institutions, or sovereignty have been accepted by all relevant parties.
Recognising something that does not truly yet exist risks undermining international norms on statehood, territorial integrity, and negotiated settlements.
2. Security risks & escalation
Official recognition can be interpreted by extremist groups as a license to escalate hostility.
It could embolden factions that reject peaceful coexistence, increasing violence risk for minorities, including Jews, in the region and beyond.
3. Threats to the Jewish community
Recognition may be used rhetorically to delegitimise Israel and fuel antisemitic narratives.
It may shift diplomatic and funding dynamics toward actors hostile to Israel and to Jews around the world, weakening safeguards.
In periods of tension, rhetoric about a “Palestinian state” may inflame protests, vigilante acts, or radicalisation that targets Jewish institutions or individuals.
4. Undermining peace & negotiation
Premature recognition bypasses direct negotiation — it could penalise Israel’s security concerns, marginalise moderates, and further polarise both sides.
True statehood must come from durable agreements, not symbolic recognitions that may sow instability.
5. A call for caution and sovereignty
The UK should support peace efforts, humanitarian initiatives and facilitate dialogues — but not leap to recognition without enforceable safeguards.
If a “state” is ever recognised, it must be after transparent treaties, security guarantees, and real institutions — not as a mere political gesture.
---
Action requested:
Please sign if you believe the UK should not recognise a Palestinian state at this time — or should revoke any such recognition — until true peace, democracy, and security are assured. Let Parliament know that Jewish safety, legal clarity, and stability must come first.
