The Issue

I never wanted to dive into the world of local politics, but the way things have unfolded in Niagara Falls has forced my hand. For years, our city has been at the mercy of "politicians" who have prioritized their own interests over our community, using their positions of power for personal gain. This issue is not only political it's highly personal for all 45,000 of us who call Niagara Falls home.

We are standing on the brink of a critical decision: a proposal to establish a data center in our beloved city. While data centers can bring about technological advances, there are serious concerns about the negative impact on our environment, local resources, and the community at large.

First, it's important to note that data centers consume a massive amount of energy. Estimates suggest that these facilities can use as much electricity as a small city. Other locations in the United States have experienced higher electric bills, loud humming noise, just reported last week Morgan County, Georgia drinking water has been contaminated. Polluted, and unsanitary. The centers demand enormous amounts of water for cooling purposes, which could strain, pollute or harm our water supply. There's also the possibility of the data collected could potentially harm us as citizens because who knows who is watching us, and why they’re keeping track and recording our personal information, data and who knows what else. AI is a very new technology, and what if it gets so big that humans can no longer control it. **PLEASE RESEARCH WHAT AI IS***

Additionally, there's limited evidence to suggest that the data center will offer substantial employment opportunities for locals, as these centers are often automated and require minimal staffing. This calls into question the economic benefits that have been presented.
Plus, they had an assessment done by their own personal private consultant group.

We have the power to protect our city, our environment, and our future generations. Standing together, we can remind our local government that their decisions should reflect the will of the people those 45,000 residents who cherish Niagara Falls as home.

We need transparency, open dialogue, and a commitment to prioritize the long-term well-being of our community over short-term economic gains. Let's ensure this project is thoroughly assessed for its environmental impacts. HISTORY HAS SHOWN US THIS CITY/STATE have a HARD time with the truth & facts.

I urge you to join me in opposing the proposed data center. Let's raise our voices, take a stand, and demand better for our city and its residents. Please sign this petition, to stop this nonsense.

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to share their concerns regarding the proposed data center project. I understand that many residents have questions about the potential impacts on our community, including environmental considerations, infrastructure, quality of life, transparency, and the overall benefits to Niagara Falls. I want to clarify that tomorrow's vote is not a final approval of the project. I encourage residents to remain engaged, stay informed, and continue sharing their thoughts and concerns as this matter moves forward. Thank you Bridgette Myles Council Member City of Niagara Falls, New York [Note: The Change.org Civic Engagement Team reaches out to decision makers to let them know about petitions in their community and to help facilitate engagement with supporters.
