Oppose the Proposed Changes to Leach Highway and Fifth Avenue Junction

The issue

We would like to retain the right turn from Leach Highway onto Fifth Avenue.

As daily users of the Fifth Avenue junction, we understand firsthand how vital this route is for us and many others living in Rossmoyne, City of Canning, WA. The proposed changes to restrict right turns from Leach Highway onto Fifth Avenue would not only inconvenience us but also significantly increase traffic on Webb Street as the only right turn into Rossmoyne from Leach Highway.

Please note also that there will be a particular increase in the number of residents using the Webb St intersection because of the new high rise building once it’s completed, potentially adding to the congestion.  Also the new properties being built on subdivisions all around Rossmoyne.

In Addition, Webb Street's short slip stream is not designed to handle extra traffic volume. This could lead to increased congestion and potentially pose safety risks for drivers and pedestrians alike.  Furthermore, it would have a knock-on effect on the traffic flow along Leach Highway itself.

The traffic around Rossmoyne will increase due to the one way in from that direction.  Not to mention that the school traffic in and around Webb Street during busy times should be considered a major issue with traffic management and flow.

Furthermore with only 1 west bound exit (right turn onto Leach) out of Rossmoyne there will be additional traffic on a council identified dangerous intersection as can be seen with the black dot sign at Webb St & Leach Hwy. The black dot indicates that the intersection is dangerous with high number of accidents already recorded. You can see the black dot sign as you turn left into Rossmoyne from Leah Hwy on Webb St and you can see another black dot sign on Webb St turning onto Leach Hwy.

We believe that our Main Roads, State Government and our Local Government should prioritise maintaining efficient transportation networks that cater to the needs of its residents rather than implementing changes that could disrupt our daily lives and cause further accidents and traffic congestion on Leach Highway and around Rossmoyne.

Therefore, we urge you to join us in opposing these proposed changes by signing this petition. Let's work together towards preserving our community's convenience and safety!
