Oppose the Proposed Locations of Asphalt and Concrete Plants in Wilkesboro

The Issue

As residents of Wilkes County, we believe in a community that supports business growth and advances economic development responsibly. We are deeply concerned about the proposed location of asphalt and concrete plants in our beloved town, Wilkesboro. Our concern stems from the potential environmental implications these plants could have on our community.

We request your help in opposing the location of the proposed concrete and asphalt plants in Wilkesboro near the State Employees Credit Union and Wilkes Community College's Health Sciences Center (near intersection of 421 & Brushy Mountain Rd.).

This site location creates negative impacts on the health, environment, and quality of life of our community. Concrete and asphalt plants emit a variety of pollutants that can cause respiratory problems, heart disease, and cancer. Effects are most extreme with the elderly population and children.
In addition, concrete and asphalt plants can produce a lot of noise, create traffic problems, and produce dangerous dust and smells. This can be disruptive to our daily lives and make it difficult to enjoy the wonderful outdoor activities in Wilkes.

We urge you to join us in person to oppose the location of this concrete and asphalt plant. You can do this by joining the zoning board of adjustments meeting on Monday, Oct 16 at 5pm.
