Oppose the Opening of Peyton Parkway into the Water Tower District
The Issue
We, the homeowners of Porter Farms Phase 7 community, are standing together as defenders of our neighborhood, our safety, and the value of our homes. Our story is that of a community that has been seemingly deceived. Realtors, builders and developers who sold us these homes never mentioned the potential conversion of Peyton Parkway into a through street. According to Collierville records, that has been planned since 2001. Now, as a result, we face the prospect of turning our peaceful neighborhood into a traffic nightmare, which could devalue our property. At a City Council Meeting Mayor Maureen Fraser commented to the residents that they should have known the road was going thru.
Our community is not just a collection of 44 houses; it’s a diverse and tight-knit community where young children play and people with disabilities freely move in a largely traffic-free setting. The thought of a continuous flow of traffic is deeply unsettling. We feel that Peyton Parkway was never designed to be a thoroughfare and the proposed changes will greatly increase the risk of traffic-related accidents, ending the peace and tranquility we currently enjoy.
Our homes represent our primary investment, and it is in these spaces that we have built lives. It's clear that the opening of Peyton Parkway into the Water Tower District would negatively impact our strong sense of community, decrease our property values, and increase the risk for potential accidents.
In light of this, we implore the responsible government authorities to reconsider their decision. Please stand with us – to protect our children, our neighbors with disabilities, the value of our homes, and the serenity of our community – by taking the necessary actions reserving Peyton Parkway as part of our neighborhood, not a thruway. We urge everyone who cares about preserving community integrity, safety, and the right to accurate information to sign this petition.
