This is an initiative to bring about awareness and positive change in our car dealer market The South African Motor Industry has faced some of the most trying times since 2019 with the Covid pandemic wreaking havoc on the economic sector.
Then we were faced with the looting saga in 2021 Jobs were lost, dealerships closed and the car dealerships that remained open struggled to maintain a stable trading pattern.
Destiny has led us to the online trading portal, which is the mainstream marketing platform Autotrader is one such platform Advertisng rates are extremely high and these costs have eliminated the ability for us dealers to pass on savings to consumers.
As independent dealers, we never get to enjoy any form of rebate or discount on our already exorbitant advertising bills. The corporate world is given preferential rates and negotiated deals which we, independent car dealers have no exposure to.
We are bullied into complying with JUST PAYING THE BILL, as AUTOTRADER found it a brilliant, marketable, option for struggling individuals who have found a business model via the motor car industry to earn a livelihood.
This can be seen as a monopolization of the online marketing platform. We wish to rally support from likeminded dealerships, to re-negotiate advertising prices with Autotrader. Autotrader currently has 1716 contributing dealerships on the platform which generates a substantial monthly revenue, which leaves a lot to be desired. We also wish to have the authenticity of the Autotrader platform verified, so as to eliminate any doubts of biased with regards to the competition of car dealers where they may have vested interest in.
Rumour has it that WE BUY CARS is a subsidiary company of Autotrader. Surely, if this is the case then the competition board should be hauled in to investigate Our aim, during this tough economic times is to engage each other and as team of united car dealers, tackle Autotrader into a serious engagement before the end of December 2022, as they have a price increase (see below correspondence) effective 1 January 2023 Now this is the big moment.
For the last 15 years we have been bullied into consistent price increases, and South Africa is at a crucial juncture where corruption and abuse of citizens has become the order of the day.
Let’s rally for change and demand that Autotrader reduce their rates by 50 percent and allow transparency to the huge profits they are currently filling into their coffers.
As a united body of car dealers we will certainly be able to get Mr George Mienie to engage us and allow us the opportunity of getting value and attention as we are the consumers who have been paramount in their growth.
