The Issue

Students are negatively affected by this new law. Especially those who are introverted  and use lunch as their mental breaks. Most kids use lunch to debrief, relax, and clear their minds before their next class. To do this they use their phones to redirect their focus from their stressful classes, to funny, and exciting entertainment. In addition, some kids who suffer from eating disorders need their phones to watch other people enjoy their food like mukbang videos, etc. It has been researched and scientifically proven that mukbangs can help people with EDs guide their negative relationship with food towards something more positive by watching people enjoy their meals.

Not only will people with anxiety towards food be affected by this law, but students with anxiety towards other things as well. For these people this law will completely interfere with their daily schedule. Many students require constant communication with their family/guardians for rides home, medical issues, and family matters. There could be extreme consequences for students if they fail to be able to communicate for any of these reasons.

It's best to modify this law before it officially begins, to prevent the problems that will occur. We as students deserve the right to be able to have our phones during breaks. This law will harm students mental health and cause more stress than it was made to prevent. Students lives should not be solely consumed by school, every child deserves to be able to have a fun childhood and daily life, not just classes and homework.
