Oppose the Imposition of Electric Vehicle Ownership Tax in Kentucky

The Issue

I am a resident of Kentucky and an owner of an electric vehicle. In 2024, a new ownership tax has been imposed on anyone owning an electric vehicle in our state. This tax amounts to $120 annually, which is a burden for many like me who have chosen to drive electric vehicles as part of our commitment towards sustainable living.

This tax is unfair and unjust. We are already paying regular taxes, and this additional levy feels like double taxation just because we own an electric vehicle. It discourages the use of environmentally friendly transportation options and contradicts the global trend towards reducing carbon emissions.

In 2019, there were approximately 1.4 million plug-in electric cars registered in the United States (source: U.S Department of Energy). The number has been increasing every year as more people choose greener alternatives for transportation. However, policies such as this one could potentially slow down or even reverse this positive trend.

We call upon our elected officials to reconsider this decision and abolish the Electric Vehicle Ownership Tax in Kentucky immediately. This will not only benefit us but also encourage more residents to switch to eco-friendly vehicles without fear of being penalized financially.

Please sign this petition if you believe that promoting green energy should not come with punitive financial measures!
