The increase of Fees at Midlands State University for the second semester of 2023 has not been without its problems for students and their families as it will leave many languishing and anguishing in abject poverty as it puts more strain on already strained financial resources which will lead to poor quality of life to these affected families.
The said increase of fees at the institution will lead to a lot of dropouts as families, parents, guidance and individuals who pay fees for themselves fail to pay. This will have an adverse effect on the economic growth trajectory of the country as the people who would contribute to such will be college dropouts and thus fail to contribute meaningfully to such.
In such times of desperation created from the lack of fees that individuals will engage and be affected by uncouth behavior. Women and girls at the institution bear the brunt of such negative behaviors and outcomes caused by the high fees being charged by Midlands State University.
This is a call of action for the Midlands State University and upstream decision makers at the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development to reduce the fees of the institution to ensure sustainability.
