Our beloved village of Bartlett, Illinois is renowned for its careful planning and cherished small-town ambiance. But this unique facet of our community is now under threat due to the proposed establishment of a Starbuds cannabis dispensary at 801 Illinois Route 59, a location ill-suited for such a venture.

Nestled in a bustling strip mall, this location is home to two established daycare centers, Kindercare and Academy 4 Kids, places where our little ones should be safe and secure. Moreover, this proposed marijuana dispensary stands less than 1000 feet from a residential area, forcing local residents and young children attending daycare to deal with potential exposure to unwanted and unregulated marijuana fumes and increased automobile traffic.

Such an establishment could detrimentally alter the peaceful suburban atmosphere we hold dear, while also introducing potential health and safety risks to our most vulnerable community members. We believe our concerns are justified as numerous studies suggest a correlation between proximity to marijuana dispensaries and an increase in crime and traffic accidents (American Journal of Preventive Medicine, 2016).

Let's preserve the well-being and charm of our village. Let's stand up for our children, for our community's serenity, and for the careful city planning we have so far upheld.
