Oppose the Enactment of a Building Moratorium in Bethel

Oppose the Enactment of a Building Moratorium in Bethel
The Issue
I am an active member of the Orthodox Jewish community in Sullivan County, and this proposed building moratorium in the town of Bethel deeply concerns me. The proposal to halt construction intends to impose an indirect restriction on members of our community from settling and leading peaceful lives in Bethel.
Bethel, located in the picturesque heart of New York State, has always been a welcoming community where diversity thrives. Erecting barriers to growth and integration contradicts this very spirit. Rather than shunning this expansion, the town should embrace it, ensuring a diverse and rich community.
Halting building development risks stagnation and further economic implications. The construction sector plays a substantial role in Bethel's economic structure, providing jobs and attracting investments. According to the Borough Department of Economy, in 2018, local construction contributed approximately 15% to the town’s economy. Stopping this valuable economic driver can lead to job losses and potential loss of taxes eventually forcing the town raise taxes on its current residents.
We request the town's council not to pass the proposed moratorium and instead, foster an atmosphere of inclusion, remembering that our town's strength lies in its diverse residents. By signing this petition, you advocate for pluralism, economic growth, and a welcoming Bethel. Together, let's show that Bethel is a town for everyone. Please, sign and share this petition.
