The Issue

The proposed CUP3 Cryptocurrency Processing Facility, intended to be built by Evolution Technology LLC at 6438 Walkenhorst Road, Concordia, MO, poses significant threats to our local environment, community, and agricultural operations. We urge the Lafayette County Commissioners to reconsider granting this conditional use permit due to several pressing concerns.

First and foremost, the environmental impact cannot be underestimated. Cryptocurrency mining facilities consume staggering amounts of electricity.  Such massive energy consumption will contribute significantly to carbon emissions and have been shown to increase particulate matter in the air. That particulate matter has been associated with elevating cardiovascular and respiratory conditions for hundreds of miles from the site of energy production.

Moreover, the operation of these facilities will generate excessive noise levels that could interfere with wildlife habitats, affect agricultural animal production, and disturb the peaceful living conditions expected by residents of a rural community.

Additionally, there's an increased risk of fires at such facilities due to the high energy demands and sophisticated machinery involved in cryptocurrency mining. This risk endangers nearby agricultural products, damaging local farms and exposing our population to potential toxins released by a fire.

Our community should prioritize renewable, sustainable development that aligns with environmental protection and the well-being of its residents. A cryptocurrency facility does not meet this criterion and, as such, should not proceed.

We call upon all concerned residents of Lafayette County to stand united in opposition to this project. Please sign this petition to let our voices be heard and protect the harmony and safety of our beloved rural communities.
