Oppose the conversion of college ground into buildings
Oppose the conversion of college ground into buildings
The Issue
Having spent my formative years at this college, I deeply understand the value of our sports ground. It wasn’t just a patch of grass or a place for mere physical activities; it was a cornerstone of our educational journey. I am deeply concerned about the latest proposal to convert this vital space into more buildings. Such a change would not only strip future students of essential physical and recreational outlets but also undermine the holistic development we all benefitted from.
In today's fast-paced academic environment, the significance of sports and recreational activities cannot be overstated. Physical activities and recreational sports are proven to enhance cognitive functions, reduce anxiety, and improve overall student well-being. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, regular participation in physical activities reduces the risk of heart problems and obesity and boosts mental health. These are critical factors, especially for students under significant academic pressure.
When a college campus becomes a concrete jungle, it restricts students’ ability to explore, engage, and thrive. Our sports ground is not just a luxury. It's a necessity. It offers a sanctuary for physical fitness and the development of life skills such as teamwork, leadership, and resilience. These cannot be taught in classrooms alone.
By advocating to keep the ground dedicated to sports and recreation, we provide current and future students a chance for a balanced lifestyle, safeguarding not just their physical fitness but also their mental and emotional health. We need to send a strong message to the college administration that we value comprehensive development as much as academic achievement.
I urge all alumni, students, and members of the community to sign this petition. Let us preserve this vital part of our college life. Stand with us in opposition to this proposal, and ensure that upcoming generations have access to the same opportunities that shaped our futures.
Please sign this petition to keep our sports ground intact and dedicated to fostering balanced, healthy, and well-rounded students.
