Oppose the Construction of up to 360 Houses on Prime Farmland in Reedham

Oppose the Construction of up to 360 Houses on Prime Farmland in Reedham
The Issue
Petition Opposing the Construction of up to 360 Houses on Prime Farmland in Reedham
We, the undersigned residents and supporters of Reedham and surrounding villages, oppose the proposed development of up to 360 houses on prime agricultural land in Reedham, Norfolk.
Key Concerns:
Loss of Prime Farmland
The proposed site is high-quality agricultural land, vital for local food production. Its conversion to housing undermines food security, especially as more land is diverted to non-agricultural uses.
Contradiction of Local Planning
The neighbourhood plan, developed with significant community input and resources, identifies this field as a valued scenic asset. Ignoring this plan disregards local democratic processes and the wishes of Reedham residents.
Inadequate Infrastructure
Reedham’s existing infrastructure is insufficient for such expansion. Sewage facilities are already strained, roads are narrow and lack street lighting, and the primary school is at capacity. Public transport options are limited, with infrequent, expensive trains and minimal bus service.
Disproportionate Impact on Village Character
Increasing the village population from 1,200 to over 2,100 would fundamentally alter Reedham’s scale, identity, and rural character.
Community Disruption
Construction would bring years of heavy vehicle traffic, noise, and inconvenience, affecting daily life for all residents.
Call to Action
We urge all residents of Reedham and neighbouring communities to support this petition. Together, we can preserve the village’s unique character, protect vital farmland, and ensure sustainable development that respects local needs and priorities.
