The Issue

The announcement to close the Magisterial District Court 38-1-25, located in Bridgeport, Pennsylvania, has come as a severe blow to the community. This decision affects not only the residents of Bridgeport but also surrounding communities who rely on this courthouse for their legal needs, including accessing fair trials, resolving disputes, and maintaining local justice.

Shutting down this courthouse means local citizens will have to travel longer distances to King of Prussia, Norristown or other courthouses to resolve their legal matters, imposing additional burdens such as increased travel time, transportation costs, and prolonged legal proceedings. It would especially impact those with limited means, elderly citizens, and individuals with demanding work schedules.

The Bridgeport district courthouse plays a crucial role by offering quick and convenient access to justice for thousands of residents every year. According to public records, the courthouse handles approximately 1,500 cases annually, providing essential services like traffic violations, small claims, landlord-tenant disputes, and minor criminal offenses. Disbanding this local facility would not only slow down these processes but could also deter individuals from pursuing rightful legal actions due to the inconvenience and frustration involved.

Keeping this courthouse open is necessary for preserving our right to access justice within our community. Keeping it operational fosters a more community-focused justice system, ensuring that the legal support remains inherent and easily accessible to everyone, without creating additional obstacles.

Given these considerations, we urge local government authorities and decision-makers to reconsider their choice to shut down the Bridgeport District Courthouse MDC 38-1-25. Please stand with us in protecting our community's legal rights and infrastructure by signing this petition. Every signature matters and every voice counts in demonstrating the importance of keeping this courthouse open.
