The Broward County School Board put out a new policy for the 2023-2024 school year on Friday, May 5th, 2023. This new policy will make ALL STUDENTS GRADE K-12 wear clear backpacks and other clear bags such as purses and duffle bags to school. This is a clear violation of the fourth amendment and right to privacy (especially females), not to mention that clear backpacks are expensive but built with very cheap plastic. Not only are the backpacks that students will be using are worse in quality, but they are also smaller which means you can put less supplies into the backpack. Broward County says that clear backpacks will “ensure our students safety and security” which is false because when a notebook and other items are inside the backpack, the backpack isn’t clear anymore. And since the backpacks are made from plastic, they will break very easily and they don’t save the environment, because of that, you will be spending more money for more backpacks and more plastic will be made, making the trash problem in broward county much worse. If you support the fourth amendment, right to privacy, and your wallet, sign this petition so Broward County can repeal this anti-privacy act!
