Oppose the Re-Zoning/Development of the Historic Judd Estate on 980 High St.

Oppose the Re-Zoning/Development of the Historic Judd Estate on 980 High St.
The Issue
The Historic Judd Farm at 980 High Street was bought by the Fairfield Housing Corporation. This corporation wants to squeeze 38-42 rental units on this narrow piece of property under the 8-30g affordable housing law. This project will require re-zoning of this property by the Town in order to build those rental units on partial wetlands within a residential neighborhood across the street from Holland Hill Elementary School.
Why you should oppose the re-zoning and development of 980 High Street.
This is a Historical Property:
This is a historically designated property built in 1895 by one of the original Fairfield Families. The property houses the Judd family farm house, barn, a small shed and stone walls. The house dates back to 1895 and was built by Carpenter William S. Judd. It is a well preserved example of the Queen Ann style in Fairfield.

This property has Wetlands:
The developer will need to apply for special zoning to build on the existing wetlands that is currently occupied by a family of foxes, deer, a red-necked heron, red-tailed hawks and countless others.
A development of this size would also create a disturbance of existing and sensitive underground water tables.
The location is ill suited for Affordable Housing:
We support affordable housing communities and want to see the town hit its target of 10% affordable homes, but have an expectation that the affordable housing committee and town leadership appropriately plan and site the developments in more urban parts of town, with easy access to shopping, medical care, and transportation... not on a historically designated property and in a neighborhood of single family residential homes far away from town amenities.
Please express your opposition to this proposed re-zoning and high-density development by signing this petition. Let’s prevent a growing precedence of high-density developments in our small town neighborhoods.
Please also forward this petition to your friends in and around Fairfield so they can sign as well!
