The Issue

Summary of the June 24 th MV BOD meeting:
Attendance and Financial Review
Only 40 Mariner Village residents attended. Piet Vega Vargas, Chief Financial Officer
and Treasurer, presented a thorough financial review and plan for the Board’s
consideration. Based on his analysis of the budget and pooled reserves Piet clearly
explained that no resident assessment is needed at this time.
Reserve Funds and Budget Position
During the meeting, Piet reviewed operating expenses and distinguished short-term
liquid funds from long-term reserves, showing both are healthy and currently carry a
surplus. He also used actual figures from the reserve study and demonstrated how
Mariner Village funds are tracking using actual figures rather than conjecture.
Funding the County Compliance Order
After careful review, the Treasurer determined that the first stage of the County
Compliance Order, about $225,000 – could be funded through Mariner Village’s short-
term Reserve Account, which has a balance of $474,687.69. Total Reserves are
$1,398,488.82. In short, the funds are available without adding financial risk to the
community or placing an additional burden on residents.
Call to Action
It is concerning that three Board members chose to disregard the Treasurer’s
recommendation. Mariner Village residents can only stop this unnecessary assessment
by taking ACTION. By signing this petition your vote counts against the $600 assessment.
