US Steel has finally found a group, Capstone Development to build a "Town Center" in The Preserve neighborhood. Along with long promised retail, this "Town Center" includes multi-unit apartment complexes along with a parking deck for close to 1000 cars (edit to say: 964 parking spaces for rentals not including hotel parking). These units start with studios and go up to three bedrooms. There will also be the addition of more townhomes as well as a 40 room hotel. The residents of The Preserve have largely been kept in the dark, despite the fact that this project has been in the works for two years. The potential consequences of this development are as follows: 

1) 25%-33% of the Village Green will become townhomes and retail

2) There will be a dramatic increase in traffic, affecting commute times, air quality and street safety, not just for residents of The Preserve but also for surrounding communities.

Edit: 14 studio apartments, 92 one bedroom apartments, 159 two bedroom apartments, 12 three bedroom apartments, 28 2 bedroom townhomes for rent, 16 3 bedroom townhomes for rent, 40 hotel keys (approved as part of the multifamily development).

3) 14% decrease in local property value (realtor.com)

4) Significant safety concerns.

5) Potential adverse impact on schools by increasing overcrowding.

6) Potential danger to our beloved Moss Rock hiking trail from blasting and digging.
