Oppose the 130-foot cell tower at 62 Granite Springs Road in Yorktown Heights, NY

Oppose the 130-foot cell tower at 62 Granite Springs Road in Yorktown Heights, NY
The Issue
We, the undersigned, strongly oppose the construction of a 130 foot macro cell tower at 62 Granite Springs Road, Yorktown Heights NY (across from Crystal Lake).
WHY DO WE OPPOSE THIS TOWER?
- It will not improve cell service. Installing one "small cell" (four foot antenna) on an existing utility pole is what was recommended to improve cell service in the area (not a macro cell tower).
- It will decrease the value of our homes
- It will adversely impact the environment
- It will decrease the neighborhood aesthetic
The proposed site is in the middle of a residential area, directly adjacent to homes, and it drains directly into Crystal Lake. It is also part of the NYC watershed. The proposed site is directly adjacent to Stuart's Fruit Farm - a working farm that relies on pollinating insects.
The proposed plan calls for the removal of 84 mature trees that are integral to the area’s stormwater management, as well as the disturbance of over 28,000 square feet of land, including a wetlands buffer that is home to several endangered species including the Indiana bat, bog turtle and monarch butterfly.
We believe macro cell towers do not belong in residential areas. We believe that cutting down 84 mature trees will a) be detrimental to the management of stormwater in the area, b) negatively affect the water quality in Crystal Lake, c) negatively affect the air quality in the area, d) negatively impact the adjacent wetlands and e) disturb the habitat of protected species. We believe that the bee colonies on Stuart's Fruit Farm will be negatively affected as studies have shown that radio frequency radiation causes disorientation in bees.
We demand that the Yorktown Town Board perform their due diligence and deny the developer the applicable permits and final lease approval.
Public comment on whether the Town Board should grant the developer a wetlands permit, tree removal permit, stormwater management permit and final lease approval is open through March 7, 2026.
