The Issue

I feel Sadiq Khan has not contributed anything significant to the British people to deserve a peerage. His time as Mayor of London was marked by controversy and policies that many, including myself, found ineffective or even detrimental.

Sadiq Khan's tenure witnessed a rise in crime rates, including knife crimes, making many residents feel less safe in their own city. The Economist and various reports highlighted these issues, yet there seemed to be a lack of significant action or strategy to reverse these alarming trends. As someone who believes in safety and security for our communities, this is deeply concerning.

Furthermore, under his leadership, London's transport infrastructure continued to face severe challenges. The much-delayed Crossrail project, though not entirely his fault, became a symbol of inefficiency under his administration. At the same time, the constant increase in transport fares burdened everyday commuters without noticeable improvements in services.

His environmental policies have also been debated. While he aims to reduce emissions, the introduction of extensive Ultra Low Emission Zones placed financial stress on small businesses and people already struggling with the rising cost of living, without a tangible fleet of solutions or incentives for them to transition sustainably.

Granting Sadiq Khan a peerage is not just a ceremonial honour; it places him in a position to influence the UK’s legislative agenda. Given his track record, I am concerned about the potential implications for national policies.

I urge you to join me in opposing this move by signing this petition. Let's ensure that honours such as peerage are awarded to those who have genuinely contributed positively to the nation.
