Oppose Purdue housing relocation and push for Purdue to honor housing agreement.
The Issue
Purdue has been in a housing crisis for years and has made it increasingly harder to secure housing through Purdue University Residences. We have now reached a point where Purdue has taken it too far. Purdue has relocated approximately 11% of students using University Residences housing despite the contract that these students have already signed. These students have now been downgraded from their selected rooms or have had additional students stuffed into these rooms.
If we do not push back against this greedy behavior displayed by Purdue they will continue to admit students they do not have the space for and continue stuffing more and more students into each room. We have to show them that we will not accept this. We will not accept this never-ending housing crisis that has led to a decrease in comfort and privacy while prices remain the same. Let's show them that we are willing to fight for rooms with privacy and comfort and that that is not something Purdue can take from us.
Purdue broke an agreement made with 11% of the students acquiring housing through University Residences. They did this a month before the new semester starts back up, which makes finding an alternate housing solution nearly impossible. Was this part of their plan to make sure they could get as much money from us as possible? Who knows. What we do know is that there is not much time to fight for the housing that we already fought so hard for. Please, email Purdue University Residences and President Mung Chiang to show your disappointment and demand that they honor our agreements that we've already made. Also sign this petition so that we can show them how many of us they have wronged. Show them that our Boilermaker spirit will not back down against them.
