The Issue

Barnsdall Art Park was gifted to the City of Los Angeles in 1927 as an art park and is part of the fabric of Los Feliz and East Hollywood as well as a destination for art-loving Angelenos and tourists for nearly a century. Help ensure this legacy continues!

The City of Los Angeles' proposed 2025-2026 budget includes major cuts to the Department of Cultural Affairs, which supports arts across LA and operates community arts centers. One of these centers is the beloved Barnsdall Art Park, home to LA's only UNESCO World Heritage site - Hollyhock House, Frank Lloyd Wright’s architectural masterpiece.

The proposed cuts include lay offs for arts workers across the City, including seven essential staff positions at Barnsdall Art Park. With three of Hollyhock House’s four full-time positions slated to be cut, the house will have to shut down public tours. Programming at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery and Barnsdall Gallery Theatre will be greatly reduced, and with three positions at Barnsdall Arts Center and Barnsdall Junior Arts Center slated to be cut, our low-cost fine art education class offerings (provided to thousands of local children and adults annually for over 50 years) will be significantly diminished.

Barnsdall Art Park Foundation, a 501c3 nonprofit supporting the Department of Cultural Affairs operated cultural institutions within the Park, is calling on you to TELL CITY HALL TODAY that this is not the LA you know and love. Stop these proposed cuts from becoming a reality.
