OPPOSE PARKING RESTRICTIONS AROUND LAKE HOLLYWOOD PARK

The Issue

PETITION TO LA CITY TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION OPPOSING PARKING RESTRICTIONS NEAR GRIFFITH PARK

We, the undersigned, strongly oppose the proposed expansion of Preferred Parking District #320 to include Lake Hollywood Estates.

This change would disproportionately impact the many working Angelenos who rely on access to western Griffith Park on their days off, i.e., weekends and holidays.

While concerns about traffic flow on Canyon Lake Drive are valid, restricting parking on unaffected nearby residential streets will not resolve these issues. Instead, restrictions may worsen congestion by forcing park visitors to circulate longer in search of parking.

Furthermore, claims that the streets in the proposed expansion area are "overrun" by tourists are not substantiated, as parking is consistently available within a short walk from park and trail entrances; never more than a few  driveways' distance, even at peak times.

Implementing such restrictions would set a troubling precedent - one that prioritizes private convenience over public access. Public parks should remain accessible to all residents, not just those living nearby.

As stewards of transportation policy, you have the responsibility to uphold equitable access to public spaces. We urge you to reject this unnecessary expansion and instead pursue solutions that address traffic concerns without restricting public access to one of Los Angeles' most cherished outdoor spaces.

We call on the Los Angeles City Transportation Commissioners to vote against the expansion of Preferred Parking District #320 and to protect fair and open access to Griffith Park for all Angelenos.
