Oppose Nuclear Power Plants, Promote Renewable Energy in Australia

The issue

My spirit aches when I think about beautiful bushland areas like the Collie Hills and the Hunter Valley becoming off limits because they contain nuclear power plants. With the areas becoming distant and isolated like the town of  Springfield in the Simpsons. This affects not only me but also countless Australians who hold dear the pristine beauty of our bushlands.  Our country can hold the proud position of being the leading major exporter of renewable power plants and technology. This position could easily be compromised if we allow our landscape to be dominated by nuclear power structures.Seven nuclear projects are envisaged, using sites with currently working or shuttered coal fired power stations. These will be plants up to 1.4 gigawatts (GW) to be located at Loy Yang in Victoria, Liddell in NSW’s Hunter Valley and Mt. Piper near Lithgow, Tarong and Callide in Queensland.  Small modular (SMR) reactors are planned for Port Augusta in South Australia and Muja near Collie in Western Australia. Several are planned to be built upon earthquake fault lines. It's crucial to remember that nuclear power costs considerably more than renewables and will not be productive for one or maybe two decades. According to the Australia Institute, "Fossil fuels receive subsidies of $10.3bn in Australia each year, renewables just 0.1% of this” (The Guardian, 2019). Why then should we follow a slower, costlier, less eco-conscious Energy estimates that it could take 25 or more years for the leaking waste from B-109 to reach groundwater, and that it could take 70 years for the leaking waste from T-111 to reach groundwater. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_and_radiation_accidents_and_incidents Over one hundred nuclear incidents and leaks . This  leaking radioactive waste increases the risks of harm over the long-term.devastating detrimental impact a leakage like this could have not only possesses the power to alter our beautiful landscapes, but also impede upon Australia's potential as a leading figure in renewable energy technology. Let's act in favour of our beautiful nation's future and oppose the installation of nuclear power plants. “Building a large-scale nuclear power plant in Australia would cost at least $8.5 billion, take 15 years to deliver and produce electricity at roughly twice the cost of renewable sources, the country's leading scientific institution has found. Again building a large-scale nuclear power plant in Australia would cost at least $8.5 billion, take 15 years to deliver and produce electricity at roughly twice the cost of renewable sources, the country's leading scientific institution has found”….source CSIRO. Taxpayers will be appalled when they find out that Dutton’s nuclear brainfart will only supply 3.7% of our energy needs by 2050 for the same price as 100% renewables by 2040......
