As a Canadian vetted legal firearm owner, I am deeply troubled by recent events, as I witness my property rights and those of my fellow firearm owners being threatened. We are easy targets - responsible citizens being blamed for the high crime rates and gun violence in Canada when, in fact, it is established that legal, vetted firearm owners are rarely the cause of such problems. Now our concerns are escalating as Nathalie Provost has become a candidate for the liberal party of Canada. 

Ms. Provost is a well-known advocate for strict gun control due to her personal history, which could lead her to propose and support measures that unfairly target our community. Her candidacy presents a clear conflict of interest as she could use her position to create harsh, discriminatory regulations against legal firearm owners. The proposed measures may well be ineffective at solving the actual roots of firearm-involved violent crime. According to Statistics Canada, the majority of firearms involved in violent crime are illegally obtained (Statistics Canada, 2014).

The suspect here isn't the gun-owning community, it's the inadequate preventative measures by the Liberal party, loose bail reform, and a porous border that can be exploited for illegal firearm transport. We, the legal and responsible firearm owners in Canada, need to ensure that our rights and interests are fairly represented in the political arena.
