The Issue

Living in Jordan, Minnesota has always been a dream. As a resident, parent, outdoor enthusiast, and proud member of our small-town community, the serene environment, close-knit neighborhoods, and the beauty of nature are precious to me and my family. However, the recent proposal for the Michael Foods cold storage warehouse building and variance request threatens to disrupt the fabric of our cherished town.

The proposed development, located just south of 190th Street, raises numerous concerns that cannot be ignored. One of the primary issues is the significant increase in traffic volume. This would not only lead to increased congestion but also elevate the risk of accidents, posing a direct threat to public safety.

In addition to traffic, the potential for air, light, and noise pollution is alarming. The operation of a large-scale cold storage facility involves constant movement (70+ trips per day minimum) and with it, comes the noise of trucks, trailers, braking, acceleration, building docking, etc. And lighting that disrupts our night skies; something I treasure star gazing from my deck in the evenings. Such pollution has detrimental effects on the health and well-being of our residents, surrounding nature, and animals so close to a neighborhood and state recreation area. Furthermore, the looming structure would cast shadows over our landscapes, altering the visual and environmental aesthetics that we have grown to love. This decreasing property values and the warm country feelings we love about our small town.

We need to deny the proposed variance request and take a step back to more strategically think about how to develop the land in a way that residents are never negatively impacted and the city of Jordan is able to better prepare, plan and execute an ideal plan forward that benefits Jordan and it's residents; not a business without ties or any cares about our city or benefits to us.

Another crucial concern is the negative impact on residential property values. Studies have shown that industrial developments can lead to decreased home values, which in turn affects the economic stability and prosperity of our community. As residents, we have invested not just our finances but our lives in building a future here.

It's imperative for the city council to engage in strategic planning not only focused south of 190th Street but throughout our local vicinity. We advocate for a development plan that considers community input, prioritizes sustainability, and ensures the preservation of our local identity and environment.

Join me in opposing the Michael Foods cold storage building proposal. Let's urge our city officials to reconsider this plan and explore alternative options that align with our vision for Jordan. Sign this petition to protect our town's integrity, safety, and environment for future generations.
