Oppose Mayor Brandon Johnson's Harmful Policies for the Good of Chicago
The Issue
To the People of Chicago:
We, the undersigned, are deeply concerned about the direction in which our city is headed under the leadership of Mayor Brandon Johnson. While we respect the democratic process and the right of Chicagoans to elect their leaders, we believe that Mayor Johnson's policies and decisions are endangering our city’s future and quality of life.
Why We Are Petitioning for a Recall:
Rising Crime and Public Safety Concerns: Under Mayor Johnson's leadership, crime rates have continued to rise, and many neighborhoods feel unsafe. His progressive stance on criminal justice reform, including calls to reduce police funding, has left our streets less secure. The safety of our families, children, and communities should be the top priority of any mayor, and we believe Johnson's approach is failing to provide the protection Chicagoans deserve.
Economic Decline and Tax Hikes: Mayor Johnson has proposed increasing taxes on businesses and wealthier individuals, which could drive businesses out of the city, reduce job opportunities, and hurt Chicago’s economy. With a city already struggling with high unemployment rates and a significant budget deficit, these tax hikes threaten to exacerbate our fiscal problems rather than solve them.
Failed Homelessness and Housing Policies: While the intention behind Mayor Johnson's housing policies may be to address homelessness, they lack a clear and sustainable plan. Providing housing without addressing mental health, addiction, and job training only perpetuates the cycle of poverty. Chicago needs a comprehensive solution, not temporary fixes that fail to address the root causes.
Undermining Public Schools and Education: Mayor Johnson’s strong alignment with teachers' unions, while important for workers' rights, has resulted in a lack of meaningful reform for our struggling public schools. Instead of pushing for the improvements our students need, his policies have prioritized union demands over quality education, leaving our children behind.
Increased Burden on Taxpayers: The Mayor’s spending proposals, from housing initiatives to sanctuary city policies, risk overstretching the city’s budget. Chicago cannot afford to foot the bill for programs that do not prioritize the immediate needs of its residents—like public safety, infrastructure, and job creation.
Immigration Policies That Strain Resources: While Chicago’s tradition of supporting immigrants is important, Mayor Johnson’s policies on immigration have overstretched our city’s resources. Chicago must ensure that it can care for both its local residents and newcomers without sacrificing essential services or increasing the strain on taxpayers.
What We Ask for:
We, the undersigned, call for the recall of Mayor Brandon Johnson and urge the city council and state legislature to take immediate action. Chicago deserves a mayor who will prioritize public safety, economic growth, and responsible fiscal management. We need leadership that works for all residents, not just one political agenda.
Our city deserves a leader who will stand up for the safety, prosperity, and well-being of every Chicagoan.
