Oppose Manufacturing Zoning near Wetlands, Endangered Species & Homes

The Issue

The Village of Hampshire Illinois is considering changing the zoning of 38 acres of farm land to Office-Manufacturing zoning.  This land is adjacent to homes and a wetland.  This leads to concerns regarding pollutants in drinking water, air quality issues, increased noise levels and of course light pollution. A very real concern is to the wildlife that currently live in the 2 nearby wetlands, a nearby pond and the adjacent open prairie.

Traffic safety is also a major concern.  The land is located on the northwest corner of Route 20 and Higgins Road.  Higgins Road does not seem to be equipped to handle semi truck traffic.  With an average of 10,400 vehicles a day driving on Route 20, residents that travel this route could be putting their safety at risk with increased traffic. The plan that was presented at a recent Village of Hampshire Board of Trustees meeting does not show any infrastructure improvements on either Route 20 or  Higgins Road.

We urge you to sign this petition before Planning and Zoning Commission members meet to hear public comments and vote on the motion to approve rezoning this property to O-M zoning. We are encouraging the Planning and Zoning Commission members to vote against the rezoning of this property and  Village of Hampshire Board of Trustees to vote against the annexation and re-zoning of this property.
