Elora Sands - Cachet/ Keating Development. 192 Acres. 1248 Units. 3 Stormwater Ponds.
2.4 Acre Seniors Residence.
The “Nichol Drain” Creek traverses the bottom of this double sloped valley property and flows to the Irvine River, the Grand River and the Elora Gorge. It’s the perfect place to dump the dirty water off of streets, if you’re a developer.
Stormwater pollution is always discharged on the downstream boundary of development properties, on to neighbouring properties; because it’s hard to sell houses on a polluted watercourse.
Unfortunately, pollution is a necessary evil of human activity. There are a few regulations and methods designed to “reduce” the impact, but the pollution has to go somewhere.
“Where” it goes, is not the concern of developers, as long as it goes “Away”.
“Who” it affects, is not the concern of developers, as long as it doesn’t affect sales.
“How” it affects our Community, is the responsibility charged to our Municipal Government.
The Township of Centre Wellington has excluded this property from our Official Plan of Development because it will damage our Tourism Economy.
From having to pump sewage uphill and across rivers, to increased traffic volumes on quiet streets with a limited numbers of bridges, as well as the environmental damage, there are many reasons why the area between the Grand and Irvine Rivers have been protected from development.
The Ontario Land Tribunal must respect our Official Plan and make decisions that benefit our community and our economy over the wants of a few developers.
