Completing a law degree is a significant milestone, one that I and many other fresh graduates have worked tirelessly to achieve. However, the journey doesn't end with graduation. After years of dedication and financial investment in tuition, examination, and library fees, we move on to the next phase – professional training. Many of us begin internships in advocate offices, where the unfortunate reality is that stipends are minimal, if provided at all, leaving us to navigate financial challenges on our own.

Given this context, the proposed increase in enrollment fees for newly enrolled law graduates is not just unwelcome, but it poses an additional and unnecessary strain on individuals already burdened by significant educational debts. Law graduates embark on their careers with an earnest desire to contribute to the legal profession and society. Yet, faced with escalating fees, this transition becomes fraught with financial insecurity, potentially deterring talented, passionate individuals who are unable to afford these rising costs.

Currently, more than 60% of law graduates rely on part-time jobs or financial assistance from family or friends to support themselves during internships, as per a recent survey published by the National Law Students’ Association. Adding to these costs will exacerbate inequality within the legal field, privileging those with greater financial means while alienating those from less affluent backgrounds.

It's necessary to explore alternative solutions. Why not consider offering scholarships or sliding scale fees based on income, which would make the enrollment process more equitable? Furthermore, programs that facilitate paid internships or aid from legal associations could also be implemented to relieve some of the financial burdens students face.

I call upon the concerned authorities to reconsider this increase and explore avenues that support rather than hinder new graduates. Let's ensure that the legal profession remains accessible and inclusive for all aspiring advocates.
