Stop Helicopter Tours Flying Out of Princeville Airport

The Issue

Please sign this petition to STOP helicopter operations from returning to Princeville Airport. Over 1000 people have signed as of April 1 however about 320 people are from Kauai or the state of Hawaii. Many people from all over the country also signed. PLEASE KAUAI RESIDENTS, we need more signatures. Share this petition and let us stop more helicopter activities from invading our neighborhoods disrupting our lives.  If helicopters were silent, this would not be a big deal but the noise is a huge ISSUE. It is like smoking a cigarette in public. It bothers everyone around the person smoking so there are laws to stop the smoke from affecting others.  You may have noticed if you live on Kauai or are a frequent visitor that helicopter noise is a constant in all of the beautiful areas of Kauai. There are precious few quiet places left on this island where helicopter noise pollution is not constant. If you visit Waimea Canyon, Kokee, the entire Na Pali Coast, Kee, Makua or Lumahai, you will be bombarded with constant helicopter noise from 8 am till 5 pm, seven days a week; weather permitting.  Our local community endured decades of helicopter noise from Princeville airport until covid shut it down about 3 years ago. It has been so wonderful and blissfully quiet in our Princeville communities and we want it to stay that way.  It may change soon if we do not make our voices heard as Blue Hawaiian Helicopters is planning to resume tours out of Princeville airport as early as April 1.  Jeff Stone, owner of Princeville airport has made the unfortunate decision to renew their lease which will adversely impact our quiet Princeville, Anini and Kalihiwai neighborhoods. Although Mr. Stone markets his multimillion dollar homesites as The North Shore Preserve, he is making the unfortunate mistake of taking away the natural ambience, peace and quiet of this pristine area by bringing back the helicopters.
We understand how amazing it may be to view this beautiful island from the air but helicopter tours need to originate in the designated airports at Lihue or Port Allen. Communities throughout Hawai'i are dealing with unacceptable disruption from noise and visual impacts, not to mention clear safety risks and other negative consequences of excessive helicopter activities. These operations are largely unregulated; the operators have shown no inclination to self-regulate or coordinate with the community regarding flight paths and noise concerns. Jeff Stone, the owner of Princeville Development and Blue Hawaiian Helicopters has not yet requested community input on resuming flights from Princeville Airport. We need to inform Jeff Stone and Blue Hawaiian Helicopters, the Airplane division of the Department of Transportation and the FAA  that we do not welcome them back. They can operate out of LIhue. We are not putting them out of business. Also the FAA certifies commercial airports all over the country including Lihue and other Hawaii airports but the Princeville airport is NOT certified by the FAA. Please sign this petition now.
