Oppose Google not paying maternity leave for laid off women.

Oppose Google not paying maternity leave for laid off women.

The Issue

Google executives, board members and global community.

I’m writing to express my strong opposition to Google and other companies, not paying maternity leave to mothers after layoffs.

Google has been criticized for not paying out the remainder of maternity leave for laid-off mothers.

As Google has been known to advertise how strong it supports women’s rights, this is fundamentally against their culture? Not only does it set a bad example for other companies. This  reflects how future employees will be treated, top talent should build a career elsewhere.

Google, is this how you want to be viewed?

The global community expects better from google, they should be leading by example!

According to former employees and written correspondence shared with CNBC, Google is indicating to ex-staffers who got laid off while on maternity and medical leave that they won’t get paid for all of their remaining time off. More than 100 former workers have organized a group they call “Laid off on Leave.”¹²

As for why Google should pay maternity leave for laid-off employees, it is a matter of social responsibility. Maternity leave is a basic right that should be available to all women, regardless of their employment status. It is important to note that maternity leave is not just about taking time off work; it is about ensuring that women have access to the support they need during a critical time in their lives. By providing maternity leave to laid-off employees, Google would be demonstrating its commitment to social responsibility and supporting women during a difficult time.¹

Google is currently showcasing its workplace commitments and its participation in Women’s History Month through various products and services campaigns," the group wrote in an email sent to Google executives. "We agree with you: it’s very important to recognize the hardships that still disproportionately affect women inside the workplace."

Smart business owners know that offering paid maternity leave can help with productivity, retention, and even company loyalty.

Please share this on social media, and help google, do the right thing. So this doesn’t happen to other women.

With Respect,
