I can understand safety concerns, however, if the machine is going to be put it place then it must be necessary to teach everyone how it works. I cannot speak for everyone, but I know my school does not have the threats that others may have. The detector is not stopping students from bringing things into the school, such as vapes and other items. The lines are way too long, causing students to be late for class. The detector was claimed to detect weapons, NOT metal. A weapons detector is programmed to identify shapes, not metal. I have had students who have taken out everything they were told to, yet still stopped and searched because of a small pin on their bag. I’m not saying that sacrifices can’t be made, or that safety isn’t important. I firmly believe that there should be safety protocols. They spent way too much money on a device that isn’t working properly. This is a new problem, not a solution. These machines also affect medical devices. It is also selective. The schools are using the Evolve machines to check students selectively which not only isn't fair but also defeats the purpose of having the machines.
