Oppose Dog Park Fees and exclusion from public parks in Newton MA

Oppose Dog Park Fees and exclusion from public parks in Newton MA
The Issue
The public in Newton is told to pay a public park admission fee of $70 or $75 to use the park. The Off leash specialist threatens to issue fines against dogs that are not wearing park permit tags. Members of the public are excluded from public use of these public parks. We believe our dog parks use should be free. We should be allowed to participate in the decisions for the parks. Newton Animal Control Dept is named on the tags, despite the fact that the Parks Dept runs the program yet have no power to act as ACO without certification
- Remove the illegal $50-$100 dog park admission fees for seven dog parks in Newton MA. Public tax dollars are used for parks maintenance and oversight.
- Remove the Off Leash Specialist position. No fees and no need for enforcement. He has no authority to issue citations.
- Remove members of the OLAWG, The Commissioner of the Parks Department. The Commissioner advises herself( conflicts of interest). Follow the 2005 OLDTF Resolution of criteria (4 residents, 2 city council, 1 ACO, 1 volunteer parks commission and 1 volunteer conservation commission. )
- Invite the public to attend the OLAWG, OLDTF and all meetings as mandated under the OML ( Open Meeting Laws).
