The Issue

The proposal to construct a behavioral health center at the site of the former Hara Arena in Trotwood, Ohio, has raised significant opposition from the local community. The site, which holds historical significance and has served as a gathering place for entertainment, sports, and community events for decades, is an integral part of our local heritage.

The transformation of this site into a behavioral health facility not only dismisses the cultural and historical value of the Hara Arena but also overlooks the potential negative implications on the surrounding residential areas. Increased traffic, noise, and a change in the character of the neighborhood are among the community's concerns. Many residents fear that the establishment of such a facility could lead to decreased property values and a loss of the community's identity.

We the residents of Trotwood have come together to voice strong opposition against the proposed construction site of a behavioral health hospital at the former Hara Arena site. While there is broad recognition of the importance of accessible mental health services in our region, the community believes that alternative sites should be considered to better serve both the state's requirements and local needs.

Our stance is not against individuals living with mental illness. On the contrary, we support their right to receive proper and compassionate care. The concern arises when individuals who have committed severe crimes, such as homicide, are classified as mentally ill and potentially placed in facilities within our neighborhood. This situation raises serious safety concerns for our residents.

Trotwood officials have not received any detailed information regarding the state's plans for this project. The lack of communication and transparency has further fueled apprehension among community members, who feel that their voices and concerns are not being adequately considered in the decision-making process.

Alternative solutions, such as developing a community recreational center, a sports complex, or a cultural venue, could not only generate local jobs but also enhance community engagement and tourism. These options would respect the site's legacy while meeting the community's needs.

By choosing to resist this construction, we stand for maintaining the cultural and historical essence of our community and fostering developments that truly cater to its residents' aspirations.

Please join us in opposing this proposal and calling for a thorough evaluation of more suitable and beneficial alternatives. Sign this petition to express our collective voice to the local authorities and stakeholders.
