Good news! At the last BOUSD Board of Education meeting, members of the board voted 3-2 (whew!) to oppose the proposal to build a Raising Cane’s next to Laurel Elementary by altering the 1988 Conditional Use Permit (CUP) that zones that area for professional use only, not drive thru restaurants. The superintendent has sent a letter stating the school board’s position on the issue, now it’s up to the City Council to make the final decision on Tuesday, Feb 2nd

This is our last big push to make our voices and concerns heard!

What we need you to do is write (again) to the Brea City Council by emailing the City Clerk’s Office at cityclerksgroup@cityofbrea.net by 2pm on Tues, Feb 2. Your comments will be summarized aloud and recorded at the meeting.

We want to show that we care about our community! Feel free to make your comment as personal as possible. Mention that you are a Brea resident or you work in Brea, your kids go to Laurel or BOUSD, or you may even be a Laurel alumnus. Details like that are powerful.

If you’d like to view the City Council meeting via Zoom, you must contact City Staff at (714) 990-7756 or cityclerksgroup@cityofbrea.net no later than 2pm on Tue, Feb 2nd to obtain the Zoom Meeting ID number and password. Teleconference attendees will participate via audio only and will be muted until recognized at the appropriate time by the Council - video display will be disabled.  The meeting will also be broadcast live at www.cityofbrea.net.

If you haven’t already, please like the Secure Gaslight Neighborhood page on Facebook. Members of the community post updates and more detailed information on this issue regularly.

Please keep sharing the petition! The last time this petition was shared with the City Council, we had 607 signatures, and now we’re at 753. Let’s get to 800 by Tues! Share with your family, friends, and neighbors. Attached is a graphic that you can share online and even physically print to share. We now have a short link to make finding the petition online easier than ever before: change.org/safelaurel

We are in the home stretch. The more community support we get, the better our chances are of keeping our community safe! Thank you.

Sincerely,

Rod
