Thank you to everyone who sent emails to the Brea City Council for their Jan 19th meeting and those who participated in the Community Meeting on Jan 20th! We are definitely making an impact!
Tomorrow, Jan 28th, the Brea Olinda Unified School District (BOUSD) Board of Education will be meeting, and Agenda Item 10 Section 2 is “Raising Cane’s Board Discussion and Direction.”
It’s important to know that even though the BOUSD Board is not the decision maker in the Raising Cane’s final decision (it’s the City Council), they are able to give their input. This is our last big chance to let them know our concerns before the City Council makes their final decision on Feb 2nd.
What you can do:
1. Please write a Public Comment to the BOUSD Board by completing this Google Form by 5pm on Jan 28th.They will be read aloud during the board meeting by a trustee. If you can’t use the Google Form, you can send your Public Comment to publiccomments@bousd.us (also by 5pm on Jan 28th).
Even if you wrote one for a previous meeting, you can write another one for this meeting. If you would like help starting off, here is a sample message:
I, (insert name), ask you to oppose the Raising Cane’s project at 255 E Imperial Hwy. Having a drive-thru at this location would be detrimental to the health, safety, and general welfare of the Laurel students, their families, & the neighborhood. (Feel free to add on your own personal comments.)
2. Share our petition one more time. The last time the petition was submitted to the BOUSD Board, it contained 501 signatures. Now, our voice is stronger with 679 signatures! (Also, the more people who sign, the larger our network of supporters is.)
The petition will be submitted to the Brea City Council before their Feb 2 meeting, so let’s make our voice as strong as possible!
3. Like the Secure Gaslight Community on Facebook. This is a community page where you can get updates about this issue and more.
If you have any questions or comments, you can let me know in the discussion below. Thank you for helping keep our community safe!
Sincerely,
Rod
